Toccatafor Symphonic Wind Band

Jackson, Timothy

Toccata was originally the third movement of the composer's Symphony for 32 Horns, commissioned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the British Horn Society and first performed as part of the BHS Festival in 2005 by eight horn quartets each from a different UK conservatory. It has no specific programme but includes all the characteristics expected of a driving Toccata - fast pace and expansive melodies. The work is an ideal partner for Jackson's earlier Passacaglia (which was taken from the same horn symphony) and is recommended to be played together and billed as Toccata and Passcaglia.
