In 2008, after persuasion by Tim Reynish, the composer agreed to the release of this special movement as a separate work. It's scoring has not been tampered with in any way and is noticably that of a Big Band line up. (The percussion part could easily be played by one player on drum kit.) Downtown Blues is a wonderful addition to the repertoire and is an ideal prelude to the more complicated work. "This gentle, bluesy movement is some of the best cod jazz you will ever hear".
